About the Podcast
Behçet's and Beyond is a podcast born from lived experience. We're a mother and son duo, both navigating life with neuro and systemic Behçet's disease—a rare, chronic autoimmune condition that affects vascular systems including small, medium, and large blood vessels throughout the body.
Our journey with Behçet's has been challenging and transformative. It has taken our vision, tested our resilience, and redefined what it means to live fully despite chronic illness.
Our Mission
Through honest conversations, we aim to:
- Share our personal experiences with Behçet's disease
- Provide insights into the daily realities of living with chronic illness
- Interview medical professionals to better understand this complex condition
- Build a supportive community for others affected by Behçet's and autoimmune diseases
- Raise awareness about rare diseases and their impact
Whether you're living with Behçet's disease, supporting someone who is, or simply curious about chronic illness, we hope this podcast offers connection, information, and hope.
What is Behçet's Disease?
Behçet's disease is a rare autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation of blood vessels throughout the body, affecting small, medium, and large blood vessels. Symptoms can include mouth sores, genital sores, eye inflammation, skin problems, and joint pain, among others. Neuro-Behçet's and systemic involvement can affect the central nervous system and multiple organ systems. The disease can affect anyone, but patterns vary widely from person to person.
Because Behçet's is rare and symptoms can mimic other conditions, diagnosis can take years. There is currently no cure, and treatment focuses on managing symptoms and preventing complications.
